We Killed Childlike Wonder

The people of the world are losing wonder.

Complacency ensues as a result of over-familiarity. We have drudgery. We have boredom. We have work. We have an excess of seriousness. We also have unparalleled technological advancements. We have more prosperity in human life than ever before. We have connectivity and ease in our lifestyles. We also have the fulness of the gospel on this earth. But where is the wonder?

These advancements in science and society are incredible. Are they not exciting? Do they not inspire the common man to seek beyond mediocrity for the extraordinary? And isn't the gospel supposed to be good news? For me, good news is associated with a surprise.

Guys. One of the primary reasons new ISIS recruits give as to why they converted to Jihad is that they were simply bored with their lives and wanted adventure. How utterly pathetic.

I had a thought about this. C.S. Lewis remarked that the proof of true success and maturity in men is when they are able to embrace the increased responsibilities and opportunities of adult life while maintaining childlike wonder. They have kept a love of learning and a zeal for living. They are excited. They have the ability to find joy amid drudgery. This is missing in our world today.

I am by no means an expert in anything, but I really think that if men became as little children, we would have world peace, human dignity would never be violated, and love would be the precedent for international relations. How rad would that be?

"... In malice be ye children, but in understanding be men." (1 Cor. 14:20)

"For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a childsubmissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father." (Mosiah 3:19)

"... Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little achildren, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall ahumble himself as this little bchild, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my aname receiveth me." (Matt. 18:3-5)
